Describe an example of your leadership experience in which you have positively influenced others, helped resolve disputes, or contributed to group efforts over time.
To me, a leader is someone who can communicate well with others, is confident, and has a positive attitude. I would like to consider myself a leader when it comes to the classroom. I enjoy participating in activities and I encourage others to do so as well. I do not back out from a challenge and I am never scared to take the leading role in anything I do. My communication skills and my positive attitude allows me to help others, which I feel makes me a leader. What would you say is your greatest talent or skill? How have you developed and demonstrated that talent over time? I would say my greatest talent or skill would have to be my communication skills. My communication skills have opened up a lot of opportunities for me. I am a confident person so it contributes to my communication skills because I am not afraid to ask questions, nor am I afraid to meet new people. I believe my communication skills have only gotten better as I have progressed through high school. The reason being is because high school has exposed me to a whole lot of new people. Classes like drama have helped me communicate better and have helped me overcome my fear of public speaking. Describe the most significant challenge you have faced and the steps you have taken to overcome this challenge. How has this challenge affected your academic achievement? The biggest form of adversity I have had to face was the tragic loss of a family member. On November 24, 2014, I lost one of the biggest role model in my life; my father. Losing my father was tough for my family and I. Being the only male in the family I was forced to take over a lot of responsibilities my dad had left behind. Losing him also forced me to become more mature at a young age and has shaped me into the person I am today. What is the one thing that you think sets you apart from other candidates applying to the University of California? One thing I believe sets me apart from other UC applicants are my personality traits. I am an extremely open minded person. Being open minded allows me to view things or situations from more than one perspective which feeds my curiosity. Another personality trait I have is my humbleness. I am not usually one to put myself before others and I enjoy giving back to others. I would also consider myself a very modest person. Also, I am a highly confident individual. I do not back out from a challenge; instead, I overcome it. |
